In Russia - Islam is Banned

"If Allah had not driven some people back by means of others, monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques, where Allah's name is mentioned much, would have been pulled down and destroyed. Allah will certainly help those who help Him – Allah is All-Strong, Almighty"
(Al-Hajj, 22: 40)

Last Friday 27th September 2013, Muslims from the Islamic political party Hizb ut Tahrir held an all-Russian protest called "In Russia - Islam is Banned". The reason for this protest is the actions of the authorities, which indicate that in Russia they want to forbid all that is associated with Islam. The decision of Novorossiysk Court to recognize the Quran as extremist, murder of party member Gappaev Abdullah by security forces, hijab ban in schools, demolition of the house of Allah - the Al-Ikhlas Mosque and imprisonment of its imam Rustem Safin; these facts speak for themselves. In Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Ufa, Kazan, Tyumen and other major cities in Russia, Hizb ut Tahrir Shabab spoke in mosques of the call to the Ummah to work together to protect the interests of Islam. On behalf of Hizb ut Tahrir Russia the addresses with the call to stand up for Islam and Muslims were given to imams and muftis. Also at the mosques, leaflets with the call to support Hizb ut Tahrir and the call to stand up for Islam were given. On the bridges of road junctions, banners were stretched which said: "Stop Killing Muslims", "Russia against Islam. The Quran was banned on 17/09/2013" and many others. Also Muslims stood in the streets with posters: "I was killed for believing in Allah. Gappaev Abdullah", "In Russia the Quran is banned. I am against it", "In Russia mosques are demolished. I am against it" and many other posters to attract people's attention to these facts in order thereby to affect the anti-Islamic policy of the Russian authorities.

This campaign was successful, it attracted Mass Media and Ummah responded support. Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:
وَلَوْلا دَفْعُ اللَّهِ النَّاسَ بَعْضَهُمْ بِبَعْضٍ لَفَسَدَتِ الأرْضُ

"If it were not for Allah's driving some people back by means of others, the earth would have been corrupted."

Chinese police rescue 92 children kidnapped for sale

Chinese police rescue 92 children kidnapped for sale - state media

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese police have rescued 92 children and two women kidnapped by a gang for sale and arrested 301 suspects, state media said on Saturday, in one of the biggest busts of its kind in years.

Police simultaneously swooped on locations in 11 provinces recently after a six-month investigation, China Central Television and state news agency Xinhua said, quoting the Ministry of Public Security.
An exact date of when the children were rescued and the arrests made was not given.

State media also did not give a breakdown of how many boys and how many girls were kidnapped.
A traditional preference for boys, especially in rural areas, and a strict one-child policy have contributed to a rise in the trafficking of children and women in recent years.

Kidnapped women are sold to men in remote areas who are unable to find brides due to a sex imbalance resulting from the draconian one-child policy, which has also encouraged sex-selective abortions.

The government would impose harsher punishment on people who buy kidnapped children, state television said.

Xinhua said the government would also punish parents who sell their children.

China has trumpeted the success of an intensified crackdown on the kidnapping and sale of children and women recently. In 2011, police said they had rescued more than 13,000 abducted children and 23,000 women over the past two years or so.

Are Christians Islam's Enemies?

Christians not Islam’s enemies, says minister

BY JENNIFER GOMEZ
September 23, 2013
Islam does not have any enmity towards Christians, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, in response to a parliamentary question today.
Jamil, who is the minister in charge of Islamic affairs, said while Islam is the religion of the federation, other religions are free to be practised.
Jamil said this in response to a supplementary question from DAP's Beruas Member of Parliament Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham.

Ngeh querried if there was any truth in a report on the Friday sermon prepared by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) at a mosque on August 30, in which Christians were labelled as enemies of Islam.

Jamil however sidestepped Ngeh's question on the Friday sermon, saying Islam was a state matter under the Agong and state Rulers.

He said freedom to practise other religions was evident even in Parliament today, saying a Muslim like him was answering a question from Ngeh, who is a Christian.

He went on to say that as Islam is the official religion, religious authorities in the country have a duty to promote the faith among Muslims.

Earlier, PAS's Marang MP Datuk Seri Hadi Awang wanted to know the measures by Jakim to educate people on the diversity of sects in Islam in order to preserve harmony in the Muslim community. -

Kenya At War, 68 People Died

Kenya: At least 68 killed in assault claimed by Somali militant group al-Shabaab

kenya-attack.jpg

Kenya’s armed forces say the hostage standoff has nearly ended at the Westgate mall in Nairobi, where militants attacked shoppers with guns and grenades on Saturday, killing 68 people, including at least two Canadians.

“Most of the hostages have been released, and the Kenya Defence Forces has taken control of most parts of the building,” Kenyan military spokesman Colonel Cyrus Oguna told the television station KTN. He did say how many hostages had been held or freed.

Another Canadian who died in the attack at the upmarket shopping centre has been identified by Vancouver-area family members as Naguib Damji.

Israel Is A Nazi State

Political Islam is the latest totalitarian ideology chosen by Europe to move towards liquidating the Jewish people - and it is working.

The fundamental Zionist idea about anti-Semitism was that once a Jewish State was realized, the problem of anti-Semitism in Paris, Berlin and Rome would be solved. Since Jews would have their own homeland, they could no longer be persecuted as religious and national strangers. But this neat packet of reasoning has turned out to be incorrect.

The Belgian Ministry of Education funds an organization, the Committee for Remebrance Education, which provides teachers with materials for their history lessons. One of the materials used is the cartoon “Never Again, Over Again”, which equates the treatment of the Palestinian Arabs by the Israelis today with the treatment of the Jews by the Nazis in the 40s.

“Never Again" means that what happened under Hitler should never happen again. And "Over Again" means that what is happening today is the same as in the past with Hitler, the Belgian school teachers are told. “In the past, the concentration camps were fenced off with barbed wire. Today, the border between Israel and Palestine is marked with barbed wire and a wall”.

Daniel Goldhagen devoted his entire academic research to the analysis of the Nazi genocide. His international fame came with “Hitler’s Willing Executioners”, the book-indictment of one hundred thousand “ordinary Germans” who killed millions of Jews. Now it is the turn of Goldhagen's new book titled “The Devil That Never Dies”, published by Little, Brown and Company.

The book is most important as an analysis of “global anti-Semitism” as Goldhagen calls it, but it is also the indictment of Europe’s public opinion which depicts the Jews as “monstrous predators” who crush the Palestinians. Goldhagen enunclates Europe’s new anti-Semitism as follows: “Israel has no right to exist, so it is right and necessary to destroy the Jewish state. Two hundred million Europeans see the Israeli Jews as Nazis”.

That’s why, according to the Jewish People Planning Institute, 40 to 50 percent of European Jews are considering alyah. Because they do not feel safe.

And France is the most explosive example. Nathan Sharansky just landed in Paris to coordinate the departure of 800 French Jews. “I do not remember such a number of people interested in alyah since the days when Jews stood in line outside the Israeli embassy in Moscow”, Sharanski said from the French capital.

It is a peak of emigration which has not been seen since 2004, when during the Second Intifada Europe’s Jews suffered a wave of anti-Semitism and thousand of French Jews marched through the streets raising signs like “Synagogues brûlées, République en ranger”, i.e. synagogues burned, republic in danger.

At stake is the famous relationship between Jews and France symbolized by the French Air Force jewel created by Marcel Dassault; by the father of the Constitution, Michel Debré; by Simone Veil, first president of the European Parliament; by Pierre Mendes-France, Minister of Economy in 1945, and by the socialist leader Leon Blum.

The Israeli government recently released emigration numbers. France tops the global list after Russia, Ukraine and Ethiopia. It is the “Aliyah Tapis Rouge”, emigration on the red carpet.

In Paris, the Jews are advised to “walk in groups”, never alone. Better if above the kippah they wear a baseball hat. Half of the Jewish families in Villepinte, a proletarian suburb north of the capital, have left and the local synagogue, already burned down in 2011, is no longer able to set up the required 10-man quorum, called a minyan, for prayer.

Joel Mergui, historic leader of the Jews of Paris, has warned: “The mass migration is likely to clear the capital of the community”. It is a drama silenced by the French media: “Of the 600,000 Jews in France, only one third is in contact with the community and educates their children in Jewish schools. A third is about to be assimilated, and a third is on the fence”.

Nazism, Barth said, “is ... a religious institution of salvation. It is impossible to understand National Socialism unless we see it in fact as a new Islam”.

50,000 Jews have left France since 1990. But alongside real emigration, there is a new phenomenon which is difficult to count. That of the 30,000 French Jews who spend most of the year in Israel, but who have not yet taken out citizenship. 800 Jewish marriages occur every year in the town hall of Paris, but half of these are celebrated in Israel.

After the massacre at the Jewish school in Toulouse, in which a Muslim killed a Jewish rabbi and three children, Richard Prasquier, president of the Conseil des institutions représentatif juives de France (CIJF), stated that in France there is “an Islam of war” and he compared it to Nazism.

Political Islam is the latest totalitarian ideology chosen by Europe to liquidate the Jewish people.
In view of declarations of genocidal intentions by Arab and Islamic groups, it is interesting to remember an observation by the Swiss theologian Karl Barth. Nazism, Barth said, “is ... a religious institution of salvation. It is impossible to understand National Socialism unless we see it in fact as a new Islam”.

This is Europe 1933-2013. Or as Arnold Toynbee, the noted British historian, angrily referred to them, the Jews are “a fossil race” who have no right and reason to continue to exist.

Mob Burn Down Rohingya Muslim Houses

Anti-Muslim rioters burned shops and homes in a fresh outbreak of communal unrest in Myanmar, police said on Sunday, as the former army-ruled nation grapples with destabilising religious violence.
Some 38 houses, nine businesses and a rice mill were torched during the unrest on Saturday night, which erupted after a Muslim man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to rape a Buddhist woman in a village at Kanbalu in the central region of Sagaing, according to a regional police official.
“About 150 people gathered at the police station last night, calling for them to hand over the detainee. When police did not respond, they started setting fire to nearby shops,” the official told AFP, asking to remain anonymous.
“These shops are believed to be owned by Muslim people but we are still trying to confirm it. Those people who attacked are believed to be Buddhists from two local villages,” the source added. No injuries have been reported.
Several episodes of religious unrest - mostly targeting Muslims - have exposed deep rifts in Buddhist-majority Myanmar, casting a shadow over widely praised political reforms since military rule ended two years ago.
Rights groups have accused authorities of being unable or unwilling to contain the violence, which has left around 250 people dead and over 140,000 homeless. Myanmar has rejected the claims.
Last week watchdog Physicians for Human Rights said Myanmar risked “catastrophic” levels of conflict with “potential crimes against humanity and/or genocide” if authorities failed to stem anti-Muslim hate speech and a culture of impunity around the clashes.
Many of the incidents have featured widespread retaliatory violence against Muslim communities in response to accusations of seemingly isolated criminal acts.
In the latest clash, the official said the suspect allegedly approached a 25-year-old woman, “grabbed her hand and attempted to rape her”.
Radical Buddhist monk Wirathu, whose anti-Muslim and nationalist speeches have been accused of stoking the unrest, posted a message about the incident on his Facebook page.
Using term “kalar” - a highly derogatory word - he blamed Muslims in general for the unrest.
“Kalars are troublemakers. When a kalar is there, the problem will be there. If every time kalar made trouble and people response in violent ways, both Buddhists and Buddhism will be harmed,” he said.
Two outbreaks of conflict in the western state of Rakhine in June and October last year left around 200 people dead, mainly Rohingya Muslims who are seen by many in Myanmar as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
In March dozens of people were killed in sectarian strife in the central town of Meiktila, and thousands of homes were set ablaze.
The UN’s rights envoy on Myanmar, Tomas Ojea Quintana, last week slammed the government for allowing an angry crowd to surround his car and beat on the windows during a visit to Meiktila.
He said the incident gave him an “insight into the fear residents would have felt when being chased down by violent mobs”. Myanmar has said the envoy was not in danger.

Chinese Military Capable of Jamming U.S. Communications System

China’s military is using stolen U.S. military secrets obtained from a convicted spy to defeat a high-technology communications system used in joint warfighting, combined arms warfare, and missile defenses, according to U.S. officials. The disclosure that China has the capability of jamming the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System, or JTIDS, was revealed in a Chinese military technical article published in July.JTIDS is part of a group of military communications systems called Link 16 that gives U.S. military forces jam-resistant communications, a key strategic advantage used in joint warfighting, a specialty of the American military.Read moreThis article was posted: Friday, September 20, 2013 at 5:19 pm

The Book of USA Political Wars

Gates writes book on 'political wars'

Former Defense secretary Robert Gates has a book coming out Jan. 14, and it may discomfort some members of Congress, as well as former colleagues from the Obama and Bush administrations.
In addition to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, Gates says he plans to write about "my political war with Congress each day I was in office," and what he calls "the dramatic contrast between my public respect, bipartisanship and calm, and my private frustration, disgust and anger."

Gates, who led the Pentagon for Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, says he also writes about "political wars with the White House, staff, and occasionally with the presidents themselves and often with their vice presidents, Dick Cheney and Joe Biden."

The publisher Alfred A. Knopf provided excerpts from the introduction of Gates' forthcoming tome, Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War.

There are also tales of a "bureaucratic war" within the Pentagon itself, Gates writes, all "aimed at transforming a department organized to plan for war into one that could wage war, changing the military forces we had into the military forces we needed to succeed."

As for the non-metaphorical wars, Iraq and Afghanistan, Gates writes that "initial victories in both countries were squandered by mistakes, short sightedness and conflict in the field as well as in Washington, leading to long, brutal campaigns to avert strategic defeat."

Gates also discusses the pursuit and death of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden.
As for the two presidents he served, Gates is more coy -- at least for now.
As Mike Allen of Politico writes: "Over the years, Gates deflected questions about comparisons between Bush and Obama by smiling and saying: 'Wait for the book.'"

Philippines: Nearly 100 Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels killed or captured in Zamboanga

Nearly 100 Muslim guerrillas who have held scores of people hostage for a week in Zamboanga City have been killed or captured in an offensive to retake rebel-held coastal communities, officials said Sunday.
Army troops and police special forces have regained rebel-held grounds and are pressing an assault deeper into communities in the coastal outskirts of Zamboanga city, where more than 100 Moro National Liberation Front guerrillas are holding an unspecified number of hostages, military spokesman Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said.
“We’re gaining ground, we’re pushing forward,” he said.
Troops are calibrating their firepower to avoid harming civilians, Zagala said.
At least 51 rebels have been killed and 42 others captured, most while trying to escape along the coast after discarding their camouflage uniforms for ordinary clothes, Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas IIsaid, adding that the gunmen would face criminal charges.

Obama: Clorado In State Emergency

Almost 500 people are unaccounted for in Colorado
Almost 500 people are unaccounted for in Colorado's flash floods.
Sun Sep 15, 2013 8:23PM GMT
Related Viewpoints:
US President Barack Obama has declared a state of emergency in the state of Colorado as officials say almost 500 people are unaccounted for in devastating flash floods.

A disaster declaration for Colorado signed by the US president Saturday night would offer federal aid to facilitate recovery efforts.

“Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster,” the White House said in a statement.

On Sunday, authorities announced an 80-year-old woman presumed dead. The number of deaths blamed on the flooding could already be as high as six, reported CNN.

Meanwhile, officials have warned that the death toll will almost certainly rise as there are 482 people unaccounted for.

“It's unlikely at this point that we'll be able to reach those who are stranded in the hard-to-reach areas,” said Kim Kobel, a spokesperson for the Office of Emergency Management in Boulder, Colorado.

Authorities have said that fixing 100-150 miles of roadway and 20-30 bridges in Boulder County alone would cost an estimated $150 million.

“We have lost a great deal of infrastructure,” Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper said on Saturday.

Hickenlooper has also said that federal authorities have assured him that “the $5 million that was released Friday was just the beginning” of federal assistance to Colorado.

Meanwhile, more rain is expected and residents are worried that any additional water could cause more flooding and halt rescue efforts.

US quit Syria war over possible reaction from Tehran: Iranian MP

Member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran
Member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran's Majlis,
Javad Karimi Qoddousi

An Iranian lawmaker has described possible reaction from Tehran as the main reason behind Washington’s decision to give up the idea of a military strike on Syria.

“When our military commanders introduced Syria as the red line and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei sensibly elaborated on Syria developments, Americans came to realize that Iran as the regional superpower can hamstring the US in the Middle East, and no power can ignore the Islamic Republic of Iran’s red lines,” member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran's Majlis, Javad Karimi Qoddousi, said on Wednesday.

He noted that US officials chose not to suffer a heavy military and historical loss at the current juncture of their political life.

The Iranian MP also said Syria is regarded as the axis and the birthplace of the anti-Israel resistance front in the Middle East region, adding that countries supporting the resistance front in Syria have lined up against the United States.

Karimi Qoddousi further noted that possible reactions from Hezbollah and the Damascus government were other reasons that averted the US military action against Syria.

“Americans knew that if they attacked Syria, their warships and destroyers deployed to the Mediterranean Sea would be struck by resistance missiles...” Karimi Qoddousi noted.

The US has based its recent threat of striking Syria on the unsubstantiated accusation that the Syrian government was behind a chemical attack in Damascus on August 21. The Syrian government has categorically rejected the allegation.

The White House, however, says it has no “irrefutable” evidence of the Syrian government's use of chemical weapons and that only a “strong common-sense test irrespective of the intelligence” suggests the Syrian army was responsible for the August gas attack.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. The United Nations has reported that more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the violence.

UN investigators confirm allegations of chemical weapons use (east of Damascus on Aug. 21) but qualify their attribution of responsibility as “predominantly by government forces.”  The UN report Wednesday finds that all sides in the Syrian civil war are committing crimes in defiance of international law. Government forces have committed 8 massacres of civilians, bombed hospitals and committed other war crimes in widespread attacks. The Syrian rebels, including Islamist foreign fighters’ war crimes include executions, hostage-taking and shelling civilian neighborhoods.

Krisis Ekonomi 20??: Adakah kita bersedia? Bagaimana saranan Islam.

Bismillah: Assalamu 'ala man ittba'a al-Huda

Aaamiiin.

Unity Gorvernment

CAIRO (AP) — A leading Palestinian official says rival groups Fatah and Hamas have agreed to form a national unity government in three months.
Fatah official Azzam al-Ahmed said both sides agreed on a timetable that begins with creating laws to govern elections.

Al-Ahmed spoke in Cairo after he met with a Hamas delegation led by Moussa Abu Marzouk. Tuesday's meeting was brokered by Egyptian intelligence officials.

The Hamas militant group controls the Gaza Strip, while the Western-backed Palestinian Authority governs autonomous areas in the West Bank.

The territories have been politically divided since 2007.

In 2011, Hamas and Fatah leaders signed an Egyptian-brokered reconciliation agreement that was not implemented. According to subsequent talks, the two factions were to form a national coalition government of independents to oversee legislative and presidential elections.

Israel Menangkap Mufti Palestin

Israel arrests top Palestinian cleric in Jerusalem

Big News Network (ANI) Wednesday 8th May, 2013

Ramallah, May 8 (Xinhua-ANI): Israeli police on Wednesday arrested the top Palestinian Muslim Mufti from his house in Jerusalem and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for his immediate release.
The Israeli police broke into the house of Sheikh Mohammed Hussein in East Jerusalem and took him to the police station for interrogation, said Azzam Al-Khatib, director of Islamic endowments in Jerusalem.

He added that the Mufti would be interrogated over the tension in the Temple Mount, where Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest shrine in Islam, is located.

On Tuesday, Muslim worshipers throw stones and chairs at Jewish visitors who made their way to the Temple Mount compound.

The Israeli police beefed up security in the Old City of Jerusalem, denying entry to Palestinians aged under 40 years and young female students seeking Islamic lessons outside the mosque.

This came as Jewish group planned activities to mark the 46th anniversary of Jerusalem's reunification, which refers to the Israeli annexation of East Jerusalem to turn the city as Israel's capital.

The Palestinians want East Jerusalem as capital for their future state.

In a statement on the Palestinian official news agency, President Abbas condemned the detention of the Mufti and urged Israel to release him immediately. "This is a stark challenge to the freedom of worship," Abbas said. (Xinhua-ANI)

Zionist Warplanes Strike Syria

BEIRUT (AP) — Israeli warplanes struck areas in and around the Syrian capital Sunday, setting off a series of explosions as they targeted a shipment of highly accurate, Iranian-made guided missiles believed to be bound for Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group, officials and activists said.
The attack, the second in three days and the third this year, signaled a sharp escalation of Israel's involvement in Syria's bloody civil war. Syrian state media reported that Israeli missiles struck a military and scientific research center near Damascus and caused casualties.
Syria's government called the attacks against against its territory a "flagrant violation of international law" that have made the Middle East "more dangerous."
Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi, who read a Cabinet statement to reporters Sunday in Damascus following an emergency government meeting, claimed the Israeli strikes are evidence of the Jewish state's links with Islamic extremist groups trying to overthrow President Bashar Assad's regime.
He added that Syria has the right and the duty "to defend its people by all available means."
While the government tried to use the airstrikes to taint the rebels by linking them to Israel, Syria's arch rival, the attacks still pose a dilemma for an Assad regime already battling a relentless rebellion at home. If it fails to respond, it looks weak and opens the door to such airstrikes becoming a common occurrence. But any military retaliation against Israel would risk dragging the Jewish state and its powerful army into a broader conflict.
The tempo of the new strikes added a dangerous dynamic to the conflict, fueling concerns that events could spin out of control and spark a regional crisis.
Israel's military on Sunday deployed two batteries of its Iron Dome rocket defense system to the north of the country. It described the move as part of "ongoing situational assessments."

A senior Israeli official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to disclose information about a secret military operation to the media, confirmed that Israel launched an airstrike in the Syrian capital early Sunday but did not give more precise details about the location. The target was Fateh-110 missiles, which have precision guidance systems with better aim than anything Hezbollah is known to have in its arsenal, the official told The Associated Press.

The airstrikes come as Washington considers how to respond to indications that the Syrian regime may have used chemical weapons in its civil war. President Barack Obama has described the use of such weapons as a "red line," and the administration is weighing its options - including possible military action.

Iran, a close ally of the Assad regime, condemned the airstrikes, and a senior official hinted at a possible response not from Terhan, but rather Hezbollah.

Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, assistant to the Iranian chief-of-staff, told Iran's state-run Arabic-language Al-Alam TV that Tehran "will not allow the enemy (Israel) to harm the security of the region." He added that "the resistance will retaliate to the Israeli aggression against Syria."

Israel has said it wants to stay out of the Syrian war, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly stated the Jewish state would be prepared to take military action to prevent sophisticated weapons from flowing from Syria to Hezbollah or other extremist groups.

Israel and Hezbollah fought a monthlong war in mid-2006. The militant group fired thousands of rockets at Israel, while Israeli warplanes destroyed large areas of southern and eastern Lebanon during a conflict that ended in stalemate.

Earlier this year, the Iron Dome system was credited with shooting down hundreds of rockets during a round of fighting against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.

Israel is especially concerned that Hezbollah will take advantage of the chaos in neighboring Syria and try to smuggle advanced weapons into Lebanon. These include anti-aircraft missiles, which could hamper Israel's ability to operate in Lebanese skies, and advanced Yakhont missiles that are used to attack naval ships from the coast.

Syria's state news agency reported explosions at the Jamraya military and scientific research center near Damascus and said initial reports indicate they were the "result of Israeli missiles." It said there were casualties but did not give a number.

Damascus-based activist Maath al-Shami said the strikes occurred around 3 a.m. "Damascus shook. The explosion was very, very strong," said al-Shami adding that one of the attacks occurred near the capital's Qasioun mountain that overlooks Damascus.

He said the raid targeted a military position for the elite Republican Guards that is in charge of protecting Damascus, Assad's seat of power.

Mohammed Saeed, another activist who lives in the Damascus suburb of Douma, said "the explosions were so strong that earth shook under us." He said the smell of the fire caused by the air raid near Qasioun was noticeable miles away.

Israeli media reported that Netanyahu also was holding an emergency meeting of his inner Security Cabinet. The prime minister's office declined comment.

Amos Yadlin, a former head of Israel's military intelligence, said the strikes on Syria are a signal to Damascus' ally, Tehran, that Israel is serious about the red lines it has set.

"Syria is a very important part in the front that Iran has built. Iran is testing Israel and the U.S. determination in the facing of red lines and what it sees is in clarifies to it that at least some of the players, when they define red lines and they are crossed, take it seriously," he told Army Radio.

Like the Syrian regime, Iran also portrayed the strike as evidence of collusion between Israel and Syria's rebels.

Iranian defense minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying the attacks show a growing alliance of convenience between the Syrian opposition and Israel.

"These vain moves are not a sign of Israel's power," he said. "It rather shows the (Israeli) regime's despair in the face of regional developments."

Iran has provided both financial and military support to Hezbollah for decades, and has used Syria as a conduit for both. If Assad were to fall, that pipeline could be cut, dealing a serious blow to Hezbollah's ability to confront Israel.

The Fateh-110, or "Conqueror" in Farsi, is a short-range ballistic missile developed by Iran and first put into service in 2002. The Islamic Republic unveiled an upgraded version in 2012 that improved the weapon's accuracy and increased its range to 300 kilometers (185 miles).

Vahidi said at the time that the solid-fueled missile could strike with pinpoint precision, making it the most accurate weapon of its kind in Iran's arsenal.

An Israeli airstrike in January also targeted weapons apparently bound for Hezbollah, Israeli and U.S. officials have said. The White House had no immediate comment on Sunday's reported missile strikes.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an activist group, also reported large explosions in the area of Jamraya, a military and scientific research facility northwest of Damascus, about 15 kilometers (10 miles) from the Lebanese border.

Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV said the research center in Jamraya was not hit, but instead an army supply facility that produced food products for the military. It quoted unnamed Syrian security officials as saying that three sites including military barracks, arms depots and air defense center were targeted by the strike.

The station aired footage of what it said was the Jamraya facility hit in the strike. It showed a heavily damaged building as well as what appeared to be a chicken farm with some chickens pecking around in debris scattered with dead birds.

The raid appeared to have taken place next to a major road that was filled with debris, and shell casings were strewn on the ground. A blue street sign on the side of the road referred to the direction of the Lebanon border and the Syrian town of Zabadani near the frontier.

Lebanon's Al-Mayadeen TV, which has several reporters around Syria, said one of the strikes targeted a military position in the village of Saboura, west of Damascus and about 10 kilometers (six miles) from the Lebanon border.

An amateur video said to be shot early Sunday in the Damascus area showed fire lighting up the night sky. The video appeared genuine and corresponded to other AP reporting.

Uzi Rubin, a missile expert and former Defense Ministry official, told the AP that if the target were Fateh-110 missiles as reported then it is a game changer as they put almost all Israel in range and can accurately hit targets.

Rubin emphasized that he was speaking as a rocket expert and had no details on reported strikes.
"If fired from southern Lebanon they can reach Tel Aviv and even (the southern city of) Beersheba." He said the rockets are much five times more accurate than the scud missiles that Hezbollah has fired in the past. "It is a game changer because they are a threat to Israel's infrastructure and military installations," he said.

Israel's first airstrike in Syria, in January, also struck Jamraya. U.S. officials said it targeted trucks next to the research center that carried SA-17 anti-aircraft missiles.
